The NVIDIA Control Panel is one of the last pieces of classic Windows software still shipping on millions of gaming PCs, and it is also one of the most misunderstood. Search for the best settings and you will find lists that promise free frames from options that do nothing of the sort, alongside genuinely useful advice buried three scrolls down. The panel does matter, but not for the reasons most guides claim: the settings that pay off consistently are the ones that fix stutter, tearing and latency, not the ones that supposedly unlock hidden performance.

Low Latency Mode limits how many frames the CPU can queue ahead of the GPU. It applies to DirectX 9 and DirectX 11 titles only. What Does Not Belong on These Lists
Three claims come up repeatedly and all three are wrong. The first is that Digital Vibrance improves performance. It is a saturation control with a default of 50% and a range of 0 to 100%, it changes how colours look, and it has no effect on frame rate. Some competitive players raise it because more saturated enemy models are easier to pick out against desaturated environments, which is a perceptual argument, not a performance one.
The second is that Reflex is a frame rate booster. Reflex reduces system latency, the gap between your mouse movement and the corresponding pixels changing on screen. In GPU-bound scenarios it can actually cap frame rate slightly below its uncapped peak while cutting latency significantly, which is a trade almost every competitive player wants and almost every benchmark chart misrepresents.
The third is that Threaded optimization should be forced on or off. Auto is correct. NVIDIA maintains per-title behaviour in the driver profile, and overriding it globally is a common cause of odd stutter in games that do not expect it.
There is one genuine, underrated performance setting: Shader Cache Size. Compiling shaders is a well-known source of first-run stutter, and a generous cache means that work is not repeated every time you relaunch.
