RTX 4080 SUPER vs RTX 3080 Ti: Memory, Features and Power Specifications

About this guide: This article compares published manufacturer specifications and explains how to assess benchmark evidence. We have not measured these cards in a test system for this article. It provides no original frame-rate, noise, temperature or power-efficiency results.

The RTX 4080 SUPER has 16GB of GDDR6X, while the RTX 3080 Ti has 12GB. The RTX 3080 Ti has the wider memory bus. These are different properties; neither alone determines the right upgrade.

Compare DLSS features, not just version numbers

DLSS is a suite of features. NVIDIA supports DLSS Frame Generation on RTX 40 and 50 Series, and Multi Frame Generation on RTX 50 Series. Super Resolution has broader RTX support. Therefore an RTX 4080 SUPER is not excluded from every feature introduced under DLSS 4, and lack of NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation on RTX 3080 Ti does not mean every other frame-generation implementation is unavailable. Power ratings do not establish electricity savings

The published TGP difference is 30W. It does not mean one card consumes exactly 30W less throughout ownership. Actual energy use depends on workload, frame limits, idle time, power settings and time spent gaming. Calculate electricity cost from measured consumption and your usage, not three years of assumed continuous operation at TGP.

What a useful benchmark must show

• The exact GPU models, CPU, memory, driver and game version.
• Resolution and quality settings, including ray tracing.
• Separate native rendering, upscaling and frame-generation results. Generated displayed frames are not native rendered frames.
• Average FPS, frame-time or low-percentile results, and measured power for the same workload.

Neither matching core counts nor memory bus width proves similar gaming performance. More VRAM describes capacity, not a universal speed advantage. A board power rating is not constant consumption or measured performance per watt.

Check application compatibility and benchmarks for your own games or workloads, then compare the exact offers available to you. Include condition, return policy, warranty, case clearance and the card maker’s power-supply requirements. Used or renewed listings need separate condition checks.
