White RTX 3080s were never common, and now that the card is discontinued, they are harder to find than black models. If you are building an all-white PC, you basically have five real options, and most of them you will have to buy used. Do not pay a huge premium for color alone — a 3080 is still a 3080 for performance, and paint does not change thermals much.

All RTX 3080s need serious airflow and a good power supply. Plan on a 750W PSU minimum, three PCIe 8-pin cables or the included adapter, and a case that fits a 320mm+ long, 2.7 to 3-slot thick card. White cards also show dust and yellowing faster, especially around the fans and backplate edges.

What white RTX 3080s actually exist

There was never a white Founders Edition 3080. NVIDIA only made the black/silver FE. Every white 3080 is an AIB partner card:

ASUS ROG Strix RTX 3080 White Edition: Fully white shroud, white backplate, RGB that you can turn off. This is the best-built white 3080, with a massive heatsink and quiet fans. It is also the longest and tallest — 318mm long and almost 3 slots. Check case clearance carefully. Used prices are usually the highest because Strix holds value.

Gigabyte RTX 3080 Vision OC: Silver-white with a clean minimalist look, no gamer angles. This is the easiest white 3080 to match with a white creator build or NZXT / Lian Li case. Cooling is good but not Strix-level, and Gigabyte used a PCB design that had some early driver and power-balancing quirks. Make sure the BIOS is updated if you buy used.

Zotac RTX 3080 Trinity OC White Edition: White shroud with gray fans, black backplate on some runs. Often cheaper than Strix or Vision. Cooler is adequate but runs louder under full load, and Zotac’s fan curve is aggressive. Good pick if you wear headphones and just want the white front look.

Colorful iGame RTX 3080 Ultra W OC: White with a retro pop-art backplate. Very well cooled and popular in Asia, but warranty support in the US is weak. Only buy this used locally where you can test it, not shipped from overseas with no returns.

GALAX / KFA2 RTX 3080 SG White: Similar situation to Colorful — true white shroud, good cooler, very limited US availability. Fine if you find one locally, not worth importing.

If you are shopping new-old-stock right now, you will mostly see overpriced listings for the Strix White and Vision OC. For a realistic view of current used pricing, check the live listings for a white RTX 3080 before you set a budget.

Comparison: the three you will actually find

Model Finish Length / Slots Power connectors Who it suits
ASUS ROG Strix White Edition O10G Fully white shroud + backplate 318mm / 2.9 slot 3x 8-pin Silent white builds, overclocking, large cases
Gigabyte Vision OC 10G / 12G Silver-white, minimal RGB 320mm / 2.8 slot 2x 8-pin Creator / white minimalist builds
Zotac Trinity OC White Edition White shroud, dark backplate 318mm / 2.5 slot 2x 8-pin Budget white builds, front-view only

10GB vs 12GB matters less than sellers claim. The 12GB Vision has about 3-5% more performance and more VRAM headroom at 4K, but it also draws slightly more power. Do not pay $150 extra just for 12GB on a white card unless you play at 4K with ultra textures.

Which to buy for your build

Best overall: ASUS Strix White. It cools the GDDR6X memory better than the others, which is the real failure point on the 3080. The 3080’s memory runs hot — 95-105C junction is normal on poorly cooled cards. The Strix’s larger heatsink and extra heatpipes keep memory 6-10C cooler than the Zotac in the same case. If you render, do AI work, or game for hours at 1440p/4K, this is worth the premium. Just confirm your case fits 320mm and that you have three separate 8-pin cables, not daisy-chained.

Best for clean aesthetics: Gigabyte Vision OC. It does not scream gaming PC, and the silver finish matches white motherboards from ASUS Prime, MSI MPG, and NZXT better than pure-white Strix. Trade-off: the fans use sleeve bearings that can develop a hum after 2-3 years, and Gigabyte’s RMA process is slower. When buying used, run FurMark + HWiNFO for 10 minutes and listen for bearing noise and check memory junction temp.

Cheapest way to get white: Zotac Trinity White. Often $80-$150 cheaper used than Strix White. Be honest about the compromise: louder fans, more plastic flex, and a backplate that does not match on some batches. If your case has a solid side panel or you only see the front fans, this is fine. Repasting is common on these after 3 years — ask the seller if it has been repasted and if the warranty stickers are intact.

Buying a used white 3080 without getting burned

Most white 3080s on the market now are ex-gaming or ex-mining cards. That is not automatic disqualification, but check these failure modes:

1. Memory overheating: Ask for a photo of HWiNFO memory junction temp under load. Over 108C throttles. Cards that lived in hot mining sheds often need new thermal pads. A pad replacement costs $20 in parts but requires full disassembly.

2. Yellowing and nicotine: White shrouds yellow with UV and smoke. Ask for photos in daylight, not RGB lighting. Yellowing is cosmetic, but sticky fans mean smoke exposure.

3. Sag and PCIe damage: These are 1.3-1.5kg cards. Look for a bent bracket or cracked PCIe slot cover. Always use a GPU support bracket in a white build — a white sag holder is $12 and saves the slot.

4. 12-pin adapter issues: If the seller includes a third-party white sleeved 12-pin or triple 8-pin adapter, replace it with the original or a known brand like Corsair or CableMod. Cheap white extension cables are a common cause of black screens on the 3080.

If you cannot find a clean used white 3080 under $450-$500, stop chasing it. A new white RTX 4070 Super often costs less than an overpriced Strix White, runs cooler, and uses one 16-pin connector. Look at current prices for a white RTX 4070 Super as a sanity check — in many games it matches or beats a 3080 at 1440p with half the power draw.

When the cheaper option is fine

If your case faces a wall or has a tinted panel, buy any black 3080 and add a white backplate cover or vertical mount. You will save $100+. Performance is identical, and you get a wider choice of well-cooled models like the MSI Gaming X Trio or ASUS TUF.

Also consider spray-painting the shroud only if you are comfortable disassembling the card. Many builders do this, but never paint fans, heatsink fins, or the backplate interior — it traps heat. For most people, hunting down a Gigabyte RTX 3080 Vision OC used is simpler and safer than modding.

FAQ

Is there a white RTX 3080 Founders Edition?

No. NVIDIA never made one. All white 3080s are from ASUS, Gigabyte, Zotac, Colorful, or GALAX/KFA2. Listings that say white FE are usually a black FE with a white case or custom paint.

Is a white RTX 3080 still worth it in 2026?

Yes at the right used price for 1440p ultra and 4K 60fps, especially if you already have a strong PSU. No if sellers want near-RTX 4070 Super money. The 3080 uses 320-350W and has no DLSS 3 Frame Generation, so new mid-range cards are more efficient.

Do white cards run hotter than black cards?

No, color does not affect temps. Cooler design does. A white Strix runs cooler than a black dual-fan 3080 because it has a bigger heatsink, not because it is white. Always compare cooler size and memory temps, not paint.

What PSU do I need for a white RTX 3080?

A quality 750W Gold PSU with three separate 8-pin PCIe cables for Strix, or two for Vision and Trinity. Avoid 650W units and single-cable daisy chains — they cause crashes under transient spikes. White PSU cable extensions are fine if they are from a reputable brand.
